Craig Ferriman
How would you describe your programme?
The show is the antithesis to commercial radio. Rather than pumping out the same old pop you hear all day on pop stations the show will play a variety of great music; some of which you know but don’t hear that often and some that you won’t have heard before and rarely see the light of the air waves. I’ll check the pulse of cultural and artistic life in Brighton with an entertainment review and champion new music and artists.
What made you want to join Coastway Hospital Radio For Brighton?
I’ve worked in Hospital Radio since 2007 initially in Southampton and then at Whitechapel AM in London where I worked on the request show before gaining my own weekly review show called Pick & Mix.
What do you like best about Coastway?
Its diversity and desire to be bold and unique. I also love that it is a community station rooted in Brighton with Brighton people serving the people of Brighton.
How did you get into presenting?
I initially started when I was old enough to present on my local hospital radio station in Southampton. I contacted them and they got me in on a training course.
Who/what are your biggest influence(s)?
Goodness! I love everything from the Today programme to Loose Ends on Radio 4 and listen a lot to programmes on Radio 2 and 6 Music in my flat and regularly have Radio 1 on in the car. I’m a big fan of Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie (the latter of whom I met this summer) on 6Music. I think Nick Grimshaw is great on Radio 1, Simon Mayo on Radio 2 and couldn’t wake up properly without Chris Moyles in the morning.
What have been your biggest achievements?
My BA in English from the University of London.
Name a key tune that you love or inspired you
I can never answer these questions but for sentimental reasons I’ll go for Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day
What do you do when you are not broadcasting?
I’m an avid reader. I listen to a lot of music. I love travelling and seeing friends.
