How would you describe your programme?

SportsMission is a three hour whirlwind of a show (operative word being ‘wind’) that takes place every Saturday between 2-5pm. Joseph Tim and I go through all the main talking points from the world of sport and predict the afternoon’s football scores (with varying levels of ineptitude). There is also the legendary Dodgy Quiz that gets underway every week at 3pm, all this is interspersed with sporting features from around Brighton and Sussex that we have gone out and about to put together. Needless to say its a show you need in your life…

How did you get into presenting?

I started presenting at Coastway in 2009 to gain experience while I completed my post graduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism. Back then I did a very similar show to SportsMission, albeit ‘Team Sport’ was a fledgling version of our current programme.

Who/what are your biggest influence(s)?

I’m struggling to find one place where I draw influence from as I try to collect pearls of wisdom from wherever I can. You can never be sure where you might find inspiration or motivation, so I just embrace the fact that it can happen at any time.

Name a particular piece of music that you love?

Its far too difficult to pick out one song or piece of music that I could describe as my favourite. But I can tell you that my happy song is ‘You can call me Al’ by Paul Simon. Its the only one that springs to mind that when I hear it, brings about a chirpy disposition.

What do you do when you are not broadcasting?

At the moment during my time away from the station I am training for my triathlon. I have entered the Mid Sussex Triathlon which takes place on the 10th June. BUT at the moment I can’t ride a bike and I’m not too hot at swimming either so I have my work cut out for me between now and June. Hopefully seeing me embarrass myself consistently will motivate people to donate money to the Rockinghorse Charity for whom I will be raising money. Rockinghorse do fantastic work to support children throughout Sussex and Surrey and I plan to keep that going. So check out my progress on our website www.sportsmission.co.uk and please give what you can to Rockinghorse at www.justgiving.com/Jay-Legate. Thank you.
